Skier of the Week: Colorado Mesa University Invitational

This was a truly phenomenal weekend of racing for the University of Wyoming Nordic Ski Team with two days of the team wins and three races where the top three places were swept by UW Skiers.

This makes for an extremely tough decision for Skier of the Week, a problem coaches can only hope for.

Despite the amazing performances by a great many athletes one athlete definitely rose to the top!

In only her 3rd season of skiing, one in High School and this is the second in college, she has dedicated herself to a level only matched by the most elite on our team and it has paid off!

She never misses a practice, technique session, nor any other activity that improves her skiing. She is also the Underclass Representative and has done an incredible job in engaging the younger skiers.

Although we knew she was way fitter than she has ever been and her technique was greatly improved we had no idea of the level to which she had risen until this first race weekend.

In the skate sprint, the worst event possible for her at this time, she placed a respectable 10th and missed making the Semi-finals by only 1 second. Her improvement over last year was almost 25%!

Where she truly shined was the 10km classic where she motored around the course to an incredible 5th place finish, 4th UW woman! Her improvement over last year was an astonishing 36%!

We simply couldn't be more proud and excited to see her shine.

Congratulations Meghan for being UW Nordic Skier of the Week!
