My eyelids slowly drifted closed as
the gentle rocking of our bus lulled me into a dreamlike state. 27 sleepless
hours of driving, flying, running madly through the Chicago airport and
ordering far too many Ben Noren’s, (double espresso with chocolate over ice)
including one botched attempt in German that left the sales clerk scratching
his head over why I wanted a chocolate bar in my espresso shot, finally caught
up with me. Chutney! Exclaimed Sam. Its allllllll about the chutney. Looking
quizzically over his imaginary glasses Taylor respectfully disagreed with this
sentiment, stating that while chutney was all well and good, it was truly the
fruitcake that made holiday dinners… well, something. Honestly they weren’t
exactly sure what they were talking about as the extreme state of sleep
deprivation had all but eliminated the bulk of their mental facilities. “Well”,
I interjected, “What are your thoughts on turducken”? This sent the
conversation spiraling further into the realm of the nonsensical, culminating
in an all too serious pseudoscientific discussion of the impracticalities of
creating a massive electromagnet out of the earths magnetic field. While these
riveting conversations unfolded our Mercedes bus bounced along the narrow
Slovakian roads, ferrying us from our disembarking flight in Kosice to our
ultimate destination: the delightful mountain resort of Strbske Pleso. Official
site of the 2015 World university games!
