In the moment...the Zone

Today we were doing an amazing ski on the snowmobile trails at Fox Park. As we glided along in the frosty air Rachel asked, "what is your definition of mindfulness."

Such a simple question and on the spot Becca and I came up with an answer basically "being in the moment".

As we continued to ski I pondered this answer. It's an answer that is often given but what does it mean to me personally? When am I "in the moment"?

At this moment, on this day, this is what it means to me.

Hearing the sound of my skis squeaking on the snow. Listening to the silence of the forest with just the slightest sound of breeze in the trees.

Feeling every muscle in my body pulsing individually but coreographed to propel me down the trail. Feeling the air on my face as I move through time and place.

Seeing every frosted pine needle and every sparkle of snowflakes in the air. Watching as Rachel & Becca move in silent rhythm, dancing down the trail in front of me.

Noticing Becca's boots and her pants over one boot but hung up on her buckle on the  other.

Every minute detail and yet...

A sensation of being out of my body and watching the beauty of it's perfect movement.

Feeling no pain, discomfort, cold... just stillness.

Stillness amidst powerful, heart pumping movement.

Anything seems possible.

Anything is possible.

This is the Zone.
